Speak Love is an anti-bullying organization meant to spread love, knowledge and support while building communities that last a lifetime.
We have Speak Love today because of our wonderful founders Shelby Reeves and Breanna Ellison. They started this program in 2013 while Breanna was a sophomore in high school. Shelby had originally taken his high school basketball players into the schools to put on a character counts show as part of their community service requirement. In 2013 a tragedy touch Hobbs NM that lead to Breanna wanting to make an impact on her community and share her story of overcoming bullying. It just so happened that Shelby and his players were doing an bullying prevention show that year which lead to Breanna joining them. Soon after Breanna joined Shelby they decided that this was something that they wanted to continue to do in their community, way past that single school year which started Stop Bullying Speak Up. This program ran successfully for three years allowing the founders and their high school student volunteers to go into elementary schools and junior highs to present their assemblies. Within those three years the program grew to not only present to the Hobbs School Systems, where the program started, but to multiple school systems throughout Lea County. By summer of 2016 both Shelby and Breanna new this was something that they wanted to spread even further and decided to work towards nonprofit status. In December of 2016 Stop Bullying Speak Up changed to Speak Love and officially gained fiscal sponsorship from SINC which granted them 501(c)3 status making our founders goal become a reality. With this nonprofit status the program also expanded to the Albuquerque area, this expansion is lead by our Co-founder Breanna who is working to ensure shows will be present in the Albuquerque Schools by fall of 2017! Speak Love continues to grow and help spread their message of bullying prevention and the importances of speaking up with our students.
Speak Love is always looking for new connections, volunteers, sponsors, and people interested in hearing more about us and our message. If you have any questions please reach out and we will get back with you soon.
